Classical Cover: Kanye West’s “All of the Lights”

Undoubtedly one of the best albums of 2010, Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy provided some of the best instrumentals in hip-hop.  The second single off the record “All of the Lights” (specifically its interlude), provides the perfect melody to be turned into a live classical arrangement.

The Portland Cello Project, known for their great arrangements of pop and hip-hop tracks re-arranged the prepared strings and horns found in the original, but performed a rendition that was more subtle and gentler.  PCP’s version was more aligned with the pacing of the interlude but still captures the key hesitant, weeping moments that appear throughout the song.

The original video for reference, directed by acclaimed music video director Hype Williams:

For those wanting to hear more of The Portland Cello Project, definitely take a listen to their classical cover from 2011’s Watch The Throne.
