Semisonic’s 1998 hit “Closing Time” was one of the ’90s most recognizable post-grunge songs and a snapshot of a fleeting happy-go-lucky politically-correct decade. The song’s catchy opening of piano keys make the song a popular choice for classical covers.
One of the more unique covers of “Closing Time” comes from handbell orchestra, Bell Appeal. The unique bell arrangement for handbells, violin, viola, cello and chimes by BBell gives the ’90s retrospective hit a carol-like jingle, emphasizing the opening catchy intro.
But some fans may still prefer the piano renditions like this poignant Semisonic cover performed by YouTube user Frukamontajuju.
