Instagram is a land of selfies, foodie shots, and humble brags but now its also a place of desolation. Using photos of desolate, abandoned locales submitted by fans via Instgram, Hauschka created a brand new video for his track “Thames Town” off his new album Abandoned City.
For those unfamiliar with Thames Town, it was meant to be an urban planned British-architecture town near Shanghai, China developed in 2005. While clean and quite beautiful, much of the properties were purchased by wealthy families as their second or third homes, resulting in a modern ghost town.
Whereas many of the photos submitted for Hauschka’s new video are not from Thames Town, the one that do appear are even more desolate and abandoned than the look of Thames Town itself. In fact if photos from Thames Town were actually submitted, they would most likely be wedding photos, as the town’s picturesque church and main square have become a popular choice for wedding photographers – not exactly matching the stark, drastic tone of Hasucka’s track.
