Christmas came early to the Nashville Symphony courtesy of pop-country star Taylor Swift and her donation of $100,000 as a way of celebrating her 24th birthday. For the Nashville Symphony, it’s been a trying year but ends on a high note with their renegotiation of its musicians’ contracts for the next year. David Pomeroy, the president of Local 257 of the American Federation of Musicians, of which Swift and the orchestra’s musicians are members discussed Swift’s generosity as “a great example,” with hopes “that others will follow her lead and help ensure that the Nashville Symphony musicians’ salaries can be restored as soon as possible.”
While it’s been a tough year for many orchestras, with the Minnesota Orchestra’s lockout leading the headlines, Nashville Symphony’s rigorous fight to survive is a testament in ensuring financial stability through creative measures. This entry was posted in General and tagged nashville symphony orchestra, taylor swift on .
