Ever saw a violist play so intense that you literally see the friction cause smoke to emanate from the strings? Well new Channel Classics artists Dana Zemtsov does just that as she plays Michael Kugel’s Prelude – Ysaye as she roams around an empty church.
The Jonas Sacks-directed video proceeds with Zemtsov performing as she moves through the echoing church in very dramatic fashion but barely 5 seconds into the video, Zemtsov literally rips the viola like a boy scout learning to make a fire out of twigs.
Who is Dana Zemtsov you may ask? Born in Mexico City in 1992 but based in the Netherlands, the young musician has become one of country’s most promising and prominent talents young talents.
Along with performing with fellow dutch violinist Janine Jansen and a recent recital performance at Carnegie Hall, Zemtsov’s name power is only set to rise with her latest exclusive recording contract with Channel Classics for a three album deal.
One thing is for sure, Zemtsov is going to be one this decade’s top premiere violist to watch.
